Explore the Finest Landmarks of Chandigarh
Immerse yourself in the architectural grandeur and serene green spaces of 'The City Beautiful'. From avant-garde metal installations to vast botanical sanctuaries, discover four iconic destinations that define Chandigarh's distinguished heritage.

The Open Hand Monument
Standing as one of the city's most visually striking architectural masterpieces, the Open Hand Monument is a monumental structure conceived by the celebrated architect Le Corbusier. Crafted from heavy metal sheets and weighing approximately 50 tonnes, this extraordinary installation sits resting within a sunken trench, pivoting fluidly with the wind like a meteorological clock. Beyond its clever mechanical design, the structure conveys a profound philosophical vision. Le Corbusier designed the open palm as a universal symbol of peace, solidarity, and the total openness of ideas to the world, making it an essential cultural stop for every visitor.

The Rock Garden
A masterpiece of imaginative resourcefulness, the Rock Garden is an expansive 40-acre open-air exhibition composed entirely of urban, household, and industrial waste. This remarkable gallery was secretly established in 1957 by Nek Chand, a local officer who single-handedly crafted sculptures in his leisure time, giving birth to a lasting symbol of creative vision. Today, the site presents a breathtaking mosaic featuring around 5,000 intricately arranged statues within its bounds. As one of Chandigarh's crowning highlights, this imaginative paradise remains an unmissable marvel.

Zakir Hussain Rose Garden
Recognised as the largest botanical garden of its kind in Asia, this magnificent 27-acre sanctuary was established in 1967 under the guidance of Chandigarh's first Chief Commissioner, the late Dr M. S. Randhawa. Named in honour of India's former President, Dr Zakir Hussain, the spacious grounds offer a serene escape into nature. The garden nurtures over 17,000 plants and nearly 1,600 distinct rose varieties. In addition to its vivid floral displays, visitors can admire trees renowned for their medicinal attributes, including Bel, Bahera, Harar, Camphor, and Yellow Gulmohar.

Sukhna Lake
Resting at the picturesque foothills of the Shivalik range, Sukhna Lake is a tranquil 3-kilometre-long artificial reservoir created in 1958. This scenic water body was engineered by damming the Sukhna Choe, a seasonal stream descending from the Shivalik hills, and has since become an integral hub of city life. Early morning visitors gather along the shoreline to welcome the cool breeze and natural splendour. Serving as both a delightful picnic haven and a venue for energetic aquatic sports, the lake offers excellent facilities for boating, yachting, and water skiing.
